Leadership Academy Promotion
The Don Miklus-John Walsh Scholarship Fund,
funded by GFOA-CT wishes to promote professional development of current, active
senior level members of the GFOA-CT, through a fellowship to GFOA’s Leadership Academy. The 2019 Academy will be held at the College
of Charleston October 13-18th The event will begin on Sunday
afternoon with an opening reception and dinner and concluding on Friday after lunch.
The Academy is limited to 35 participants who are part of
senior management within their government (e.g., finance director, assistant
finance director, department managers or directors, treasurer).
Attendees
will participate in self-assessments and working sessions and hear from
industry leaders in a weeklong experience designed to help lift them to the
next levels in their public service careers.
Topics and sessions include:

Self-assessments and other behavioral
insights designed to help participants understand how they work—and how they
can best contribute to their organizations

Leadership skills for the 21st
century
- Characteristics
of great organizations
- You and
your organization
- Case
study preparation and presentations
- Leadership
discussions and reflections
Unlike previous years,
interested applicants must apply directly to GFOA and be accepted into the
program. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2019. Applicants
selected to participate in the program will be notified by July 31, 2019. GFOA
will also notify CTGFOA which individuals have been accepted into the program.
Please note CTGFOA scholarships are limited to one
participant.
The Miklus-Walsh Scholarship Fund will pay for
the Academy, ($2,100) which includes tuition, meals, books and sponsored activities.
Transportation and lodging costs will not be covered. GFOA has reserved
rooms at the Embassy Suites in Charleston for $199/night.
