Connecticut Fiscal Problems could lead to weaken local government ratings
Standard & Poor’s releases report which indicates that Connecticut’s ongoing budget stalemate at the state level is causing fiscal pressure on local governments that could lead to downgrades if the budget impasse persists. S&P indicated that they plan to assign a negative outlook on a large group of municipalities in early October.

The Board of Directors of the Connecticut GFOA met Tuesday morning, November 10, 2015. One item on the agenda was an update regarding a letter sent by OPM to independent auditors on November 6, 2015 regarding GASB 68 Accounting and Financial Reporting for Pensions – CT State Retirement System (CSTRS) and CT Municipal Employees Retirement System (CMERS).

Marketplace Fairness Act & The Remote Transactions Parity Act A key legislative priority of GFOA’s is federal legislation that would compel retailers to collect taxes on online sales and remit them to the destination of the purchaser. Estimates place the value of the lost revenue from failure to collect these taxes at over $23 billion annually.
