Vacancy is in the Pre-Audit
/Accounts Payable Unit of the Accounting and Control Division of the Finance
Department. Under general supervision, provides fiscal management assistance to
city departments by performing professional accounting and auditing work.
Performs pre-audit procedures involving review of purchase orders, invoices,
receiving reports, payrolls and related Accounts Payable accounting functions.
Supervises the detailed operation of an accounting procedure. Reviews
accounting procedures and recommends improvements. Performs post-audit of
department or agency accounting records. Prepares special financial reports and
periodic financial statements. May supervise an account procedure. Performs
related work as required. This is a
CHPEA union position. The hours of work for this position are 40 hours per
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The examination will consist of
an evaluation of training and experience as indicated on the application. All
parts of the examination, including ratings and tests will be related to the
requirements and duties of the position. The examination is designed to
measure: Knowledge of: modern governmental accounting theories, principles and
practices. Ability to supervise the maintenance of accounting records. Ability to
prepare accounting statements and reports. Ability to audit the financial
records of all city departments. Ability to evaluate an accounting system and
to develop improvements. Ability to analyze accounting and statistical records.
Ability to prepare cost accounts and special reports. Ability to establish and
maintain satisfactory working relationships with city officials, employees and
the public. Ability to learn operational objectives of a variety of city
functions. Ability to work with increasing discretion and responsibility.

the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an
accredited college or university with major course work in accounting and three (3) years of
responsible professional accounting experience

HARTFORD RESIDENCY PREFERRED: Preferably be a bona-fide
