POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Finance Director
The Town of Essex is
currently accepting applications for the position of a full-time Finance
Director.
Position: The Finance Director works under the general
direction of the First Selectman to plan, develop, coordinate, and manage the
Town’s fiscal controls and activities which entail the application of
accounting principles and practices, and administration of payroll, budgeting,
financial planning and reporting, grants, audit, cash management, and
additional duties as required. Assists the First Selectman in preparing
the annual operating and capital improvements budgets and messages.
Advises the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance regarding fiscal
matters. Candidate must be able to perform complex accounting, fiscal
transactions and review work in the establishment and maintenance of the Town’s
fiscal records.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Public
Administration (CPA or Master’s degree preferred) or equivalent combination of
education, training and experience. A minimum of five years of increasingly
responsible experience in municipal government accounting, including one to two
years of supervisory experience. Experience with Munis accounting software
preferred. Must be eligible for bonding in accordance with
Connecticut State Statutes. Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s
license.
Salary Range: Minimum of
$89,674 to a maximum of $124,310 with benefits, based on applicant’s
qualifications and experience.
Schedule: Must be flexible in their schedule and able to
work evenings, and under time pressure. The successful candidates must be
able to meet strict deadlines and exercise a significant amount of
judgment.
