JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior
Accountant
JOB
SUMMARY: Under
the general supervision of Director of Finance, Associate Director of Finance
or designated supervisor or administrator, this position performs accounting,
budgeting, and other fiscal analyses, in accordance with sound accounting
practices and principles. Coordinates
implements and assists with special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: When assigned by the
Finance Director, Associate Director or designee the Senior Accountant may
supervise employees involved in accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable,
payroll, and other related accounting functions.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs accounting functions, including accounts payable, purchasing,
accounts receivable, and payroll as needed.
Assists in
preparing a variety of reports, including various quarterly and annual government reports.
Reviews department and grant budgets making
adjustments when necessary. Creating
accounts and monitoring expenditures/revenues for compliance.
Prepares bank reconciliations and reconciles records
and accounts as assigned.
Prepares and posts necessary adjusting entries; and
routine monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries.
Assists with
review of budget transfer/appropriation requests; prepares and submits
transfers and/or appropriations resolutions for
Board of Finance action.
Makes all postings and recordings
to the general ledger; and reconciles as directed to maintain its accuracy.
Assists with staff training and
development in Finance Department.
Assists with the evaluation of
financial reporting systems, and accounting and collection procedures; makes
recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and
other financial control functions.
Maintains
current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state
policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Ability to
work extra hours, as required.
Regular
attendance is a requirement of this position.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related
field with acceptable course work in accounting/finance and three years general
accounting experience.
Considerable ability to organize
and express thoughts and ideas through written and oral communication.
Considerable
ability to define problems; collect data; establish facts; and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to exercise mature
judgment; maintain confidentiality; and make responsible decisions in
accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to prioritize, organize,
and perform work independently.
Ability to plan and maintain
record keeping systems.
Strong computer skills including MS
office products.
PERFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and knowledge of fund
accounting.
Five to
eight years of related experience
Familiarity
with MUNIS software
Excel
experience to include formulas and pivot tables, Sharepoint/OneDrive
Demonstrated
ability to work independently
