TITLE: Senior Accountant

SCOPE: The Senior
Accountant will be responsible for maintaining various manual and EDP
accounting functions and providing administrative support in conjunction with
the total operation of the Department of Finance.
monthly Trial Balance Reports of the following account groups: General Fund, Special Revenue, Trust and
Agency, Capital Projects and Enterprise Funds.
the reconciliation of checking accounts for all fund groups.
working knowledge of the payroll function to act as a backup as required.
control reports for cash receipts and expenditures at month end and participate
in reconciling differences.
spreadsheet applications as needed for interim and long range forecasting
and maintain EDP filing system for general correspondence, special reports, and
budgeting documents including annual
other related office functions in order to maintain the integrity and
efficiency of the Finance Department.
mail and answer phone inquiries as a back up to the Accounting Clerk.
support to and act as back up for the Controller in their absence.
other related duties as required.
Education and Training
degree in a finance or business related field required, advanced degree preferred.
(5) years’ experience in Accounting or Financial practices in a municipal
and governmental accounting experience preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
to multitask and complete multiple projects on-time and within budget.
with MS Office Suite, including database management.
significant expertise in standard accounting practices.
to interact professionally with multiple levels of the general public, Town
Officials and Town Employees.
to supervise support staff in the absence of the Controller.
and arrange cash management
all general journal entries
knowledge of funding relationship between Federal, State and local government
