The Town of Southington is seeking an Accountant to perform professional and operational functions in the Finance Department. This position reports directly to the Finance Director. Job responsibilities include analyzing data to prepare various financial reports for external and internal purposes, recording transactions, periodic balancing and maintaining financial records for various Town funds, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for municipalities. The position also involves review and preparation of approved documentation for cash disbursements and receipts processing by the Junior Accountant. The Accountant will also perform related duties as required.
Requirements include a Bachelorís Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a major in Accounting from an accredited college or university and at least 2 years experience in governmental accounting or auditing, including experience with fund accounting and above duties. Experience with Financial Management Systems and Microsoft applications is also desired.
Any combination of written test or verbal interview may be given to those applicants deemed most qualified.
Current salary is $49,595 and the position is within the AFSCME Local 1303-428 Union. Benefit package includes Anthem BC/BS Century Preferred health plan, term life insurance and 13 paid holidays.
