DESCRIPTION:
Vacancy
is in the Accounting and Control Division of the Finance Department. Under supervision, provides fiscal management assistance
to city departments by performing beginning level professional accounting and
auditing functions; supervises the detailed operation of an accounting procedure. Reviews accounting procedures and recommends improvements. Performs pre-audit functions
involving purchase orders, invoices, receiving reports, reports of receipts,
payrolls, and related functions. Prepares general ledger and
subsidiary ledger entries.
Performs post-audit of
department or agency accounting records. Prepares special financial reports
and periodic financial statements. May supervise an account procedure by
planning and directing the work of clerical personnel. Performs related work as required.
This is a CHPEA union position
and the hours of work are 40 per week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The
examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on
your application. The examination may also include a
written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All
parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be
related to the requirements of the position. The
test is designed to measure: Knowledge of basic accounting theories, principles
and practices, and of office methods and procedures;
Ability to supervise the maintenance of accounting records; Ability to evaluate
an accounting system and to develop improvements; Ability
to assist in the preparation of accounting statements and reports, and to
assist in the audit of the financial records of the City; Ability to establish
and maintain satisfactory working relationships with City officials, employees
and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Open
to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:
Graduation from an
accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or
graduation from a recognized school of accounting .
An
equivalent combination of not less than seven full years of education and\or
work experience may be substituted for education and experience. A substitutable year of education will normally be
interpreted as the achievement of not less than 30 course credits in courses
above the high
school
level and related to the public administration curriculum or the special area
of assignment. A substitutable year of work experience will normally be
interpreted as full-time responsible administrative work assessed on the basis
of 1,820 work hours annually
