BUDGET & ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

COMPTROLLERíS DEPARTMENT

 

Summary:  Applies principles of accounting to analyze and compile financial information for preparation of financial and budgetary reports, balance sheet detailing, general ledger accounts, and prepare journal entries.  Prepares the Departmentís annual budget, and reviews other departmentsí submissions.  Reviews, investigates, and adjusts financial entries.  Enters budgetary data into municipal software system.  Prepares and verifies data for various reports and external audits, and assists in the preparation of federal, state and local reports.  Provides backup support for weekly payroll and annual W-2 submission.  Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures.  Annually compiles data for 1099 form preparation.  Processes unemployment claims.  Provides administrative support.  Attends night budget meetings as assigned.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:  Regularly works in indoor or office environment.  Regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  Occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made.

 

Work Hours/Schedule/Type:  Full time position, 37Ĺ hours per week.  Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 1 hour unpaid meal period.

 

Qualifications:  Requires Associateís Degree in related field with 4 years of relevant experience.  Education and experience may be substituted.  Requires proficient computer skills and intermediate knowledge of financial management, purchasing, spreadsheet, word processing, and Internet software, and basic knowledge of database software.  Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and maintain confidentiality.

 

Benefits include Defined Benefit Pension Plan, generous time off & insurance package.

 

Salary:  $31.05/hr. (Increases to $34.03, @ 6 mths. $34.58, @ 1 yr. $34.58)
