Comptroller
The Town of New Canaan is seeking
applicants for the position of Comptroller. The purpose of this position is to
analyze and maintain a variety of routine and complex transaction, analytical,
administrative, financial and technical records and to
assist in preparing, reviewing and maintaining the Town’s Operating and Capital
Budgets (All Funds). This position
performs professional accounting and auditing services enforcing internal
accounting controls and compliance with internal and external reporting
requirements. The Comptroller is
required to exercise considerable independent judgment in administering and
managing the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction
and control.
CPA and a Master’s degree in
accounting preferred or finance or related degree from an accredited college or
program and 7 years of experience in accounting, preferably with a municipality
or related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training
and work experience which demonstrates the potential for performing the duties
of this position. Applicants should possess a strong knowledge of municipal
budgeting and government accounting.
Applicant should also possess a strong knowledge of balance sheets and
bank reconciliations. Candidates should
have a working knowledge of GAAP, understand the Government Accounting
Standards, and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience in Munis financial software is a
plus. This position also requires strong communication skills, and the ability
to work with all levels of management, external auditors, and the public.
