POSITION: Accounting Assistant II – Tax Collector

Receives direction from the Department Supervisor and is
responsible for a variety of accounting, administrative, and clerical tasks
which support Town and departmental functions. Performs professional accounting
support and assistance to department Directors/Managers. Daily contact with the
public and other Town employees regarding tax records, deposits, and general
tax information. Receives revenues, calculates adjustments, interest, and
penalties, in conformance with State laws and Town ordinances/regulations,
reviews tax payment for accuracy. Audits, reconciles, manages, and maintains
department tax collection records including motor vehicle tax payments and
delinquencies, liens etc. Maintains tax records in balance with the GL;
maintains sewer records and prepares billing statements. May supervise and
assign work to accounting clerks or part time staff. Determines priority of
works tasks; prepares reports and correspondence as directed. Other tasks
assigned as per the job description.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business
plus, four years work experience in an accounting related field or an
combination of work experience and education. Must be proficient in
Office especially Excel: ability to learn specific software related to the
Westport. Experience in Munis a plus.
