Position Title:    Accounts Clerk - Finance


Hours of Work:                                                                                                                 Salary Grade 4

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – 8:30 to 4:30                                                     $18.46 to $26.07

Thursday – 8:30 to 6:30                                                                                                 35.5 Hours per week

Friday- 8:30 to Noon                                                                                                      ˝ hour unpaid lunch


The Town of Madison is accepting applications for the position of Accounts Clerk, Finance Department.  This position is located in the Finance Department of the Town.  Completed applications must be received in the Human Resources Department no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 16, 2021.  Application forms may be obtained in the Human Resources Department, 8 Campus Drive, Madison, CT  06433; or, applications can be submitted through the website at www.madisonct.org. 


Minimum Training and Experience Required To Perform Essential Job Functions:


Associates degree or equivalent with vocational/technical training in Accounting or a related field with one (1) year of related accounting experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.  Proficient in Excel.  Candidate must possess a Connecticut driver’s license and be able to successfully complete a complex background check.  A background in municipal finance and familiarity with MUNIS is highly desirable. 



Position Purpose:


To perform a variety of accounting functions in support of department operations.  Reviews and codes invoices; reviews invoices submitted to Finance; prepares checks for payment; prepares bank deposits or transfer of funds; reconciles and balances accounts, funds and statements; prepares financial, statistical and narrative reports and summaries; posts journal entries; verifies postings; reconciles errors.  Maintains logs, files, spreadsheets and data bases.  Assists other departments, vendors and the public.  May assist in payroll preparation.  Performs other various tasks as assigned.
