State Budget Analyst

 Summary of Job:        

 The State Budget Analyst will be responsible for in-depth analysis of the Connecticut biennial state budget for the Senate Republican Leader and Senate Republican Caucus. 

 

Examples of Duties:

 

·         Prepares, analyzes, interprets proposed and existing legislation, laws, and policies that implement the state budget.

·         Evaluates the impact of proposed and existing federal and state budget policies.

·         Produces technical budget documents and reports within given deadlines and time frames in support of the Senate Republican Leader.

·         Recommends statutory modifications to accomplish policy goals.

·         Monitors potential financial changes to the budget environment.

·         Identifies weaknesses in past and current budgets with an eye toward efficiency.

·         Works as member of caucus leadership team responsible for identifying needs, problem solving, critical thinking and strategic planning for caucus-wide implementation.

·         Performs other duties as needed.

 

Requirements:

 

·         Ability to review and analyze financial information concerning revenues and expenditures and develop appropriate budget recommendations.

·         Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental budgeting, accounting, and fiscal/operational policy of State government

·         Excellent communication skills, written and oral.

·         Exceptional analytic and research abilities.

·         Demonstrated skill at adapting to special demands of the job, meeting deadlines, working effectively in crisis or pressure situations, and responding well to unusual situations.

·         Ability to be highly productive, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines under stressful conditions.

·         Ability to act professionally and objectively in dealing with legislators and public.

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle politically sensitive work.

·         Ability to maintain good working relationships.

·         Ability to work overtime.

·         Familiarity with the legislative process.
