Assistant Finance Director

The Town of Stratford, pop 50,256 is looking for an Assistant Finance Director. The position includes highly technical and administrative work involving responsibility for a broad range of municipal finance functions. Assisting the Finance Director with development and oversight of financial policy and financial management of the Town. The successful candidate must have a through knowledge of accounting, auditing and financial reporting principles and practices with special emphasis on governmental finance and accounting as applied to municipalities; ability to research, interpret, and apply GASB pronouncements as applied to municipalities; considerable knowledge of municipal IT applications; ability in written and oral expression and the ability to comprehend and comply with federal, state and municipal laws, regulations and financial management standards. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field and five years experience in governmental accounting or ten years experience in general accounting or a Master’s degree and/or certification as a CPA and three years experience in government accounting or five years experience in general accounting including one year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
