Assistant Finance Director

The Town of Stratford, pop 50,256 is looking for an Assistant Finance Director.  The position includes highly technical and administrative work involving responsibility for a broad range of municipal finance functions.  Assisting the Finance Director with development and oversight of financial policy and financial management of the Town.  The successful candidate must have a through knowledge of accounting, auditing and financial reporting principles and practices with special emphasis on governmental finance and accounting as applied to municipalities; ability to research, interpret, and apply GASB pronouncements as applied to municipalities; considerable knowledge of municipal IT applications; ability in written and oral expression and the ability to comprehend and comply with federal, state and municipal laws, regulations and financial management standards.  Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field and five years experience in governmental accounting or ten years experience in general accounting or a Master’s degree and/or certification as a CPA and three years experience in government accounting or five years experience in general accounting including one year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  The salary will be commensurate based on experience and qualifications, plus competitive fringe benefits.  Visit www.townofstratford.com for additional information about the Town.  Position opened until filled.  Resumes, Applications and salary history should be mailed to the Human Resources Dept., Town of Stratford, 2725 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
